Our deepest sympathy to the family of
Evarista Przybylski Kubiak,
83, who peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012.
She will be missed by her family, friends and Polish community in Houston.
Evarista was born in Brenham, TX, on June 9, 1929, and attended Mill Creek School until the 8th grade, when she went to work picking cotton in the fields of Brenham. Evarista moved to Houston in 1947 to find work. Her Uncle Frank Baranowski was a very important figure in her life, helping her to obtain her first job in Houston and providing support throughout her life. Evarista married Alexander Frank Kubiak in 1949, and together they had two daughters. Alexander passed away in 1966, and Evarista raised her family in the Heights area of Houston, supporting them through production line supervisor jobs at Modern Optics and Chem Spray Aerosols. She was an active long-time member of Christ the King Catholic Church in the Heights, holding roles in the choir, liturgical ministry, altar society, Eucharistic ministry, and the Catholic Daughters. Evarista was very involved in the local Polish community in Houston. She was a member of the Polish National Alliance Kosciuszko Lodge 165 and held various leadership roles within the PNA, including Council Treasurer and Recording Secretary; she was Lodge President for many years up until the time of her death. She also managed the day-to-day operations of the Polish Home building in Northwest Houston, including managing the bar and rentals of the hall, until the building was recently sold. Evarista received many awards and recognitions throughout her life, including Woman of the Year in 2003 from the PNA for her tireless dedication to the Polish community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent Przybylski and Cecelia Baranowski Przybylski, and her grandson Brian Castellese. She is survived by her sister Esther Ganaway and husband Larry, and daughters, Dolores McMurtrie and husband Ken, and Marilyn Edwards. Grandchildren: Richard Castellese and wife Nicole, Kristie McFarling and husband Thomas, Angela Wilke and husband Thomas. Evarista’s great-grandchildren, Thomas McFarling Jr., Ava McFarling, and Ethan Wilke, were her favorite little people on the planet and she loved teaching them Polish words.
