Witold Łukaszewski was born in Luzki, Poland. He spent the first seven years of his life in the northeastern part of the country, where his father served in the Polish Army on the Polish-Soviet border. After Germany invaded Poland, he and his family were arrested by the Soviet NKVD and deported to Siberia. Between February 1942, when he left his exile, and the end of WWII, he travelled with the Polish civilian families through the southern Soviet Union, Persia, and India. In 1947, he rejoined his father in Great Britain and, after completing his High School education there, he and his family emigrated to the United States in July 1950. From 1952 to 1955 he served in the US Army, where he was assigned to a Military Intelligence unit it Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After completing his military service, he resumed his studies, earning a BA degree in 1958 and an MA degree in 1962, both from Seton Hall University, and a PhD degree from Columbia University in 1973, supervised by Zbigniew Brzeziński. In 1970, he was appointed to the Faculty at Sam Houston State University, from which he retired in 2007.
