Polish violinist Dominika Dancewicz and string quartet Meridian Ensemble will be opening the group’s new concert season with the fiery program, on Tuesday, September 18, at 7PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church in the Village.
Meridian Ensemble will perform two contrasting but equally compelling works – Serge Prokofiev’s String Quartet No.1 and the landmark of chamber music repertoire – Franz Schubert’s String Quartet in D minor “Death and the Maiden”.
Programmed “at the edge” of the physical and emotional demand, the “death-defying” music will keep you at the edge of your seat. Prokofiev’s life story, reflected somewhat in his chamber music, draws his fascination with Western music confronted with the struggle against the oppressive system in the Soviet Union.
Charged with extreme emotions, “Death and the Maiden” was written as Schubert’s self-eulogy and never-stopping argument with composer’s impending death.
As always, Meridian Ensemble will present a short talk about the music. Delivered with poise and passion, it will make you enjoy what you hear more than ever.
A great opportunity to hear top-notch Houston artists in the intimate setting of the recital hall!
