ABOUT THE PANELISTS:

Dr. John Hittinger is a founder and Director of the Saint John Paul II Institute at the University of St. Thomas. He also holds the position of Tenured Professor of Philosophy. Dr. Hittinger has published four books. He founded the Pope John Paul II Forum for the Church in the Modern World in 2009 and He has published articles and presented papers on a variety of topics including John Locke, Jacques Maritain, military ethics, liberal education, political philosophy and the thought of John Paul II. He can speak on John Paul II, philosophy of war and peace, and issues in political philosophy.

Dr. Przemyslaw Benken is a Polish historian and political scientist who graduated in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Szczecin and earned his Ph.D. from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. He has been an associate of the Szczecin branch of the Institute of National Remembrance since 2012 and is currently the chief specialist in the branch’s Historical Research Office. For several years he held a teaching appointment at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Research interests: 19th- and 20th-century military history (including the Second Indochina War) and the contemporary history of Poland, especially of the Communist security apparatus. Author of ten scholarly and general interest books (including Wypadki gryfickie 1951 r., Szczecin: Instytut Pamięci Narodowej – Komisja Ścigania Zbrodni przeciwko Narodowi Polskiemu, 2014; Ofensywa Tet 1968.
