Published on March 1, 2013, Eric Lichtblau’s article The Holocaust Just Got More Shocking brings new data collected by Holocaust researchers.
The existence of many individual camps and ghettos was previously known only on a fragmented, region-by-region basis. In the letter sent on March 2, 2013 to NYT Tadeusz W. Patzek, UT Professor, questions article statements that indicate Poland to be a state aligned with Nazi Germany.
Dear Ms. Sullivan,I just saw this multimedia graphic:in the otherwise truthful and powerful article about the Holocaust. In the lower left corner of this graphic there is the following text:“Researchers have documented about 350 additional ghettos that were established by states aligned with Nazi Germany”Since when Poland was aligned with the Nazi Germany?!The only alignment I can think of is the alignment of 1000 Polish hostages shot every couple of days in Warsaw with the German machine guns. And, yes, the war in Poland was very different than the spring picnic in the Vichy France aligned with Germany. But you see no camps there. All captured and betrayed French Jews were shipped east.It is either a gaping lack of understanding of history, so typical of Americans, or the vicious anti-Polish propaganda that is at play here.Either way, this inscription is very regretful and unworthy of the New York Times.Regards,Tadeusz W. I agree with professor Patzek.
The inscription in Sullivan’ graphic is incorrect and misleading.
