Stanley Garczynski was an engineer whose accomplishments include helping decrease the carbon footprint of the steel industry in the 50’s and helping design the foundation for Houston’s current public transportation system. He retired from the Houston Department of Transportation (METRO) in the early 90’s and proudly remarked about being hired as HDOT’s third engineer. A key figure in the Polish community in Houston, he helped found the Houston Chapter of the Kosciusko Foundation and was a leader of the Polish American Congress. Stanley was also active in many Polish cultural organizations in Chicago. His passions in life included his late wife Maria, his proud Polish heritage, coin collecting, playing piano and painting. The latter of which produced breathtaking landscapes on canvas, a skill he inherited from his mother Isabella. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Maria in August of 2002.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Wednesday, July 24 with Stanley’s funeral service to take place at 10:00am, Thursday, July 25, all to be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Antoine Drive in Houston. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories.
