the history, documents and exhibit of the Kościuszko Squadron

1. Webinar on the Polish Collection at Central Connecticut State University and the Kościuszko Squadron history, exhibits, and documents. (Saturday, January 18, 2025; 12:00 pm Central Time)

  • Renata C. Vickrey, head of Special Collections, will discuss the extensive archives of Polish materials held by the university that are available to researchers. This includes the holdings regarding the Polish aviators of WWI and WWII known as the Kościuszko Squadron.
  • Waldemar Kostrzewa will explore the history of the Kościuszko Squadron and introduce its permanent exhibit at the New England Air Museum, of which he was the committee leader.

2.  Webinar on the Comparison of vital records in the Austrian partition of Poland with records of Upper Silesia under German Administration (Sunday, February 16, 2025; 2:00 pm Central Time)

  • Maciej Orzechowski will present important facts comparing how records were written in German administered Upper Silesia which had a Polish population, against records in the Austrian Partition of Poland. From the perspective of a genealogist, he will illustrate key similarities, differences, advantages, disadvantages, and cautions to be exercised when creating a family history from these regions.
  • Maciej is one of only two researchers allowed access to the Przemyśl Archdiocesan Archives, and an expert on the archives in Sanok and elsewhere in Galicia.
