On October 21, 2019, Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa to Prof. Bogdan Czerniak from the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Prof. Czerniak is a graduate of the Pomeranian Medical University and has been working in the Department of Pathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center for more than 25 years. He is an expert in the pathology of tumors arising in the genitourinary and skeletal systems. Prof. Czerniak has published over 240 peer reviewed articles many of which have appeared in high impact journals. Some of them have been cited more than 1,000 times. He has also discovered a new class of genes termed the forerunner genes which contribute to the early phases of bladder cancer development.
