Critics described the festival as a \u201c<em><a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php?page=acymailing5_front&amp;ctrl=url&amp;subid=2821&amp;urlid=1383&amp;mailid=366&amp;action=acymailing5_frontrouter&amp;noheader=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>strangely psychedelic experience<\/strong><\/a><\/em>,\u201d with its immersive stage designs, atmospheric smoke, and dynamic crowds capturing the adventurous spirit of contemporary experimental music. Similarly, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/04\/22\/jazztopad-festival-new-york-2025\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Jazztopad Festival<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/a>brought world-class improvisers to stages across the city, from intimate venues to iconic spaces, offering audiences unforgettable encounters with jazz and contemporary music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/01\/14\/daniel-hope-with-the-polish-chamber-orchestra-of-sinfonia-varsovia-journey-to-mozart\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Polish Chamber Orchestra<\/strong><\/a>, joined by the acclaimed violinist&nbsp;<strong>Daniel Hope<\/strong>, embarked on a U.S. tour,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php?page=acymailing5_front&amp;ctrl=url&amp;subid=2821&amp;urlid=1384&amp;mailid=366&amp;action=acymailing5_frontrouter&amp;noheader=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>delivering performances brimming with vitality<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and offering masterful interpretations of both classical and contemporary repertoire. Meanwhile, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/08\/26\/karol-rathaus-festival-3\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Karol Rathaus Festival<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;revived the music of \u00e9migr\u00e9 composers, connecting historical works with contemporary interpretations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biennial&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/08\/25\/bam-kino-polska-2025\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>BAM Kino Polska<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;showcased the vibrancy of both contemporary and classic Polish cinema, providing a platform for established directors and emerging filmmakers to connect with new audiences. This year\u2019s dynamic lineup explored powerful stories of resistance, identity, and transformation, ranging from historical and contemporary dramas to poetic, deeply personal documentaries. Reflecting a region shaped by upheaval, resilience, and the enduring human spirit, Kino Polska continues to offer New York audiences a fascinating glimpse into the richness and diversity of Polish cinema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. premiere of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2024\/12\/02\/the-employees-by-lukasz-twarkowski-at-nyu-skirball\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>The Employees<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, directed by \u0141ukasz Twarkowski and staged at NYU Skirball, brought Olga Ravn\u2019s dystopian sci-fi novel to life in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php?page=acymailing5_front&amp;ctrl=url&amp;subid=2821&amp;urlid=1385&amp;mailid=366&amp;action=acymailing5_frontrouter&amp;noheader=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>visually striking adaptation&nbsp;<\/strong><\/a>that offers a mix of theater, film, and installation in an exploration of what it means to be human, marking the debut of the internationally acclaimed Polish director in New York. Another standout was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2024\/12\/17\/the-7th-voyage-of-egon-tichy-redux\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>The 7th Voyage of Egon Tichy<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, inspired by the work of Stanis\u0142aw Lem. This inventive live performance by Sinking Ship and Theater in Quarantine combined slapstick, sci-fi, and digital sleight-of-hand, transforming a single performer and a small white box into a cosmic, time-looping adventure that thrilled audiences with its imagination and ingenuity. As the&nbsp;<em>New York Times&nbsp;<\/em>observed, \u201c<em><a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php?page=acymailing5_front&amp;ctrl=url&amp;subid=2821&amp;urlid=1386&amp;mailid=366&amp;action=acymailing5_frontrouter&amp;noheader=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Lem\u2019s story is a satire of the infinite human capacity for self-defeat<\/strong><\/a><\/em>\u2026<em>&nbsp;Philosophical cleverness is the story\u2019s top note; beneath it you may scent the sad bouquet of solitude, even among a crowd<\/em>,\u201d perfectly capturing the performance\u2019s blend of wit, intellect, and emotional depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A major attraction for the fine arts audience was the U.S. retrospective&nbsp;<em><strong>Tamara de Lempicka&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em>at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, widely praised as<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php?page=acymailing5_front&amp;ctrl=url&amp;subid=2821&amp;urlid=1388&amp;mailid=366&amp;action=acymailing5_frontrouter&amp;noheader=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>&nbsp;a long-overdue survey that perfectly captures the artist\u2019s sharp, sensual style.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/a>The visual arts program also included&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/04\/21\/open-group-repeat-after-me-ii-and-untitled\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>The Open Group: Repeat After Me II<\/em>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<em>Untitled<\/em><\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;exhibition. As&nbsp;<em>The New Yorker<\/em>&nbsp;noted,&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php?page=acymailing5_front&amp;ctrl=url&amp;subid=2821&amp;urlid=1387&amp;mailid=366&amp;action=acymailing5_frontrouter&amp;noheader=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\u2018\u201cRepeat after me\u201d\u2014a phrase that\u2019s equal parts education and exhortation<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;to stand at a mic and make the noises yourself,&#8221;&nbsp;<\/em>capturing the participatory and experimental spirit of the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another remarkable event was a solo exhibition&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/10\/23\/disorder-solo-exhibition-by-aneta-grzeszykowska\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Disorder<\/em><\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;by Aneta Grzeszykowska, still on view in the Voloshyn Gallery, Miami. As&nbsp;<em>Observer&nbsp;<\/em>noted, the Polish artist&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php?page=acymailing5_front&amp;ctrl=url&amp;subid=2821&amp;urlid=1397&amp;mailid=366&amp;action=acymailing5_frontrouter&amp;noheader=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>&#8220;<strong>transforms the ordinary into meticulously staged, often dreamlike scenarios, revealing the extraordinary within the smallest gestures that seem to defy the looming specters of death and<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>abandonment.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;Definitely worth mentioning was extraordinary installation&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/07\/24\/magdalena-dukiewicz-solo-exhibition-at-sunroom-project-space\/?acm=9513_366&amp;acm=2821_366\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Bloom<\/strong><\/em><\/a>&nbsp;at Wave Hill in the Bronx by&nbsp;<strong>Magdalena Dukiewicz<\/strong>, who<em>&nbsp;&#8220;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php?page=acymailing5_front&amp;ctrl=url&amp;subid=2821&amp;urlid=1399&amp;mailid=366&amp;action=acymailing5_frontrouter&amp;noheader=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>translates the invisible violence of environmental inequality into an atmosphere that can be<\/em><em>felt on the<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<em><strong>skin<\/strong><\/em>&#8220;<\/a>&nbsp;(Cultbytes, review&nbsp;Nov 2025).&nbsp;The Nguyen Wahed Gallery presented&nbsp;the group exhibition&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/07\/24\/material-resistance-anna-barlik-marlena-kudlicka-magdalena-abakanowicz-and-agnieszka-kurant\/?acm=9513_366&amp;acm=2821_366\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Material Resistance&nbsp;<\/em><\/a><\/strong>featuring works by&nbsp;<strong>Magdalena Abakanowicz, Anna Barlik, Marlena Kudlicka, and Agnieszka Kurant&nbsp;<\/strong>animated by&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php?page=acymailing5_front&amp;ctrl=url&amp;subid=9513&amp;urlid=1391&amp;mailid=366&amp;action=acymailing5_frontrouter&amp;noheader=1\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cthe belief that physical form carries its own intelligence and capacity for critique,&#8221;<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>The Brooklyn Rail<\/em>).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Literary programming also flourished,&nbsp;<strong>Mira Rosenthal<\/strong>&nbsp;received the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/03\/28\/mira-rosenthal-receives-the-2025-found-in-translation-award\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>2025 Found in Translation Award (FiTA)<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;for her translation of&nbsp;<strong>Tomasz R\u00f3\u017cycki<\/strong>, which also won a PEN America Award. We continued our collaboration with<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/02\/14\/2025-alta-emerging-translator-mentorship-program\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>&nbsp;ALTA\u2019s Translation Mentoring Program<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/a>and supported the publication of&nbsp;<strong>Julian Kornhauser\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/11\/06\/hemorrhages-squirrels-by-jakub-kornhauser\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Hemorrhages &amp; Squirrels<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, translated by Piotr Florczyk. Many Polish authors presented their books as part of our staple program,&nbsp;<em><strong>Polish Literature on Tour in the U.S<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also participated in&nbsp;<strong>EUNIC<\/strong>&nbsp;New York\u2019s project for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/09\/19\/2025-european-day-of-languages\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>European Day of Languages<\/strong><\/a>, highlighting the King W\u0142adys\u0142aw Jagie\u0142\u0142o statue in Central Park, and presented Polish-Jewish programming, including conversation with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/02\/11\/jerome-rothenberg-and-dorota-czerner-a-conversation-on-poland-1931-the-pathways-of-translation\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Jerome Rothenberg and Dorota Czerner<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/a>on translation and memory;&nbsp;and the Roma projects&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/01\/27\/papusza-bronislawa-wajs-with-emilia-kledzik-encounters-with-polish-literature\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Encounters with Polish Literature<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/newyork\/2025\/05\/08\/bronislawa-wajs-papusza-the-queen-of-roma-poetry\/?acm=2821_366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Polish Poetry Unites<\/strong><\/a>, featuring the work of&nbsp;<strong>Bronis\u0142awa Wajs<\/strong>, known as \u201c<strong>Papusza<\/strong>,\u201d one of the most renowned Roma poets in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Across all disciplines, our 2025 program offered Across disciplines, our 2025 programming delivered inventive, interdisciplinary experiences that celebrated artistic experimentation, encouraged dialogue, and showcased the depth of Polish culture.
